Cao Thanh-Lan, pianist
Born in Hanoi, Viet Nam into a musical family, Thanh-Lan Cao studied Piano at the Hanoi NationalConservatory for 12 years with Prof.Tran Thu Ha and Nguyên Thi Lan before receiving a full government scholarship to study at theRoyal Conservatory of Brussels. She graduated both her Bachelor Degree and Master Degree with Distinction from the class of Prof. Daniel Blumenthal in 2010 and of Prof.Boyan Vodenitcharov in 2012. After a successful audition in June 2012, she was accepted to the Master of Contemporary Piano Music in the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, Germany, to the class of the world leading contemporary pianist- Prof Pierre-Laurent Aimard.
As a pianist, she won several prizes, namely the Gold Prize at the ASIA Intl. Piano Festival and Competition in South Korea, July 2011; the 2nd Prize at the National Competition for Young Talent “L’Automne” in 2007, the 3rd Prize at the International Carl Filtsch Competition in Romania 2012, the Special Prize at the Intl. Piano Competition in Hanoi 2010 in which she was accompanied by the Hanoi National Conservatory’s Orchestra.
As a chamber musician, she performed in concerts which specialized in the repertoire of Oboe and Bassoon in 2009 and 2010 organized by the former members of “ Yehudi Menuhin’s Live Music Now” Foundation. In September 2011, she was 1 of the 3 pianists chosen for theKlangspurren Festival of Contemporary Music in Schwaz, Austria. Forming a duo with a classical tenor, she received a scholarship to pursue the prestigious Intl. Lied Masterclasses Udo Reinemann. Being an advocate of Contemporary music, she was also chosen to take part in the Festival ManiFest and Academy at Ircam in Paris, June 2012 in which she also had Masterclasses with Sebastien Vichard (Ensemble Intercontemporain), Luca Francesconi andPhilippe Manoury.
